On May 19, 2021 at 7:00 PM, the Ride of Silence will traverse and unite the globe as nothing before it. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn't aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves.
In 2003,Chris Phelan organized the first Ride of Silence in Dallas after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and was killed.
The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no national sponsors and no registration fees. The ride, which is held during National Bike Month , aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured.
Please check the resources on this site. If there is a Ride of Silence in your area, we encourage you to join them. If there is not a ride planned in your area, please consider adding your city to the ever-growing list of sites. To get information on how to organize and host a Ride of Silence, please click here ; you might also want to look at our FAQ .
The necessary expenses the Ride of Silence has to incur are met by supportive volunteers and donations .
On May 19, 2019, cyclists in Laredo, Texas and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico held the only known International Ride of Silence. Cyclists road the streets in their cities. Then they gathered on each side of
the Rio Grande River to share their common bond of ending vehicle caused injuries.
Watch the inspiring video below.

For several years running, the City of Laredo, its Mayor Protem - Roberto Balli, along with BikeLaredo, and the Laredo Cycling Association have hosted the only international "Ride of Silence" with our neighbors and fellow riders in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. The ride goes throughout the historical "Streets of Laredo" and down the highly visible access road of IH35 and down to the Rio Grande where riders meet up with the cycling community from across the river to remember those cyclists whose lives were cut short by careless drivers. An important part of Mayor Protem Balli's legacy is advocating for pedestrian and bicycle safety and educating motorists that our roads are to be shared with cyclist and pedestrians alike.

MARYVILLE TN RIDE OF SILENCE, BLOUNT COUNTY COURTHOUSE
MAY 18, 2016, 7 PM
On Wednesday evening at 7pm bicyclists assembled at the Blount County Courthouse in Maryville Tennessee to roll-out for the annual Ride of Silence in memory of their friends, family, 6and associates killed or injured by motor vehicle operators. The Maryville Ride of Silence is one of over 300 rides that occur worldwide on the 3rd Wednesday of May each year. In 2015 an estimated 12,000 riders from 49 states, 20 countries, and 7 continents participated. Over 700 cyclists are killed each year while riding. Most of them occur in our cities, and suburbs.
With this ride, The Jeff Roth Cycling Foundation hopes to educate motorists that cyclists have the legal right to the road and to watch out for cyclists whenever they see them. The Ride of Silence is similar to a funeral procession. The ride will be a slow paced 8 mile loop of Maryville, ridden no faster than 12mph. There will be no talking, only silence, to remember our fallen brothers and sisters. Black armbands are often worn in memory of those who have been killed; red armbands may be worn by those injured while riding.
The Maryville Ride of Silence is sponsored by The Jeff Roth Cycling Foundation. The ride is open to all individuals interested in participating. Participants are asked to arrive at the Blount County Courthouse by 6:30 pm with ride departing promptly at 7pm. Helmets are required, front and rear lights are strongly recommended. Additional information about the ride can be obtained by contacting The Jeff Roth Cycling Foundation @ (865) 309-5723.
